Karan Johar posted an emotional note after David Dhawan said that his next film, Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, could be his last film as a director. He wrote how David Dhawan is an inspiration to an entire generation of filmmakers.

After knowing about veteran director David Dhawan’s upcoming film, Karan Johar has written an emotional note for him. If you are young then you have to fall in love This may be his last directorial venture. Johar attended an event to launch David Dhawan’s film festival, where the veteran filmmaker revealed what could be his last film as a director.

In his post, Johar said that David Dhawan has created an entire genre of entertainment and his films have always been synonymous with entertainment. He also said that he got emotional hearing Dhawan talk about his move away from direction and described him as an institution that has inspired generations of filmmakers.

Johar’s note for David Dhawan

Sharing his reaction, Johar wrote, ‘Yesterday, when I went to Davidji’s function and he told me that this would be his last film, I had a bitter reaction in my heart, here is a filmmaker who is responsible for creating an entire genre of films, a film by David Dhawan spells entertainment! How must he feel saying this when he is an institution that so many filmmakers have taken forward as inspiration.”

He further added, “Our fraternity loves him, respects him and celebrates him. There is no opposition!!! Your summer blockbuster with your son is for you…David Dhawan is the no.1 man forever (sic).”

Varun Dhawan later reacted to the post and thanked Johar for attending the event and convincing his father. Re-sharing the note on his Instagram Story, Varun wrote, “Karan, thanks so much for coming yesterday and celebrating dad. Now it’s time to celebrate you tomorrow.”

Comment on David Dhawan’s retirement

David Dhawan is known for many commercial blockbuster films over the decades, including Hero Number 1, Twins And I am your hero. His collaborations with Govinda, Salman Khan and later Varun Dhawan played a major role in shaping mainstream Hindi comedy cinema.
