Nkuti Gatwa has always been vocal about his outspoken opinions and what he says. What better occasion to take a look at him than his birthday? The actor whose casting as Doctor Who caused huge controversy when it was announced has revealed the reason behind his decision to star in the iconic series.
The casting announcement was initially made in 2022, and it quickly went viral as many people shared their opinions on this casting choice. While speaking with Variety in April this year, Gatwa had shared about the reaction he received for taking up the iconic role. He said, “Do you know what? It makes perfect sense to me.”
He continued, “I feel like anyone who has a problem with a straight white man playing this character is not really a fan of the show. You are not looking! Because the show is about regeneration, and the Doctor is an alien – why would they want to be the only type of person?
He recalled filming his scene with veteran actor and series alumnus David Tennant during the Christmas special in 2023. Gatwa told the outlet that this is why she decided to pursue acting and that working with him felt like a “full circle” moment for her.
