Neena Gupta on enduring director’s abuse on sets: I needed money
Actress Neena Gupta revealed her experience of being misbehaved by a director on a film set. He also shared regrets about some of his past roles and cited financial pressure as the reason for some choices.

Veteran actress Neena Gupta has recalled being misbehaved by a director on the sets. In a recent interview, Gupta spoke about an incident when he faced harsh language and abuse even though he had done nothing wrong.
The 66-year-old also admitted that she accepted roles that she later regretted. She shared that financial constraints often lead her to take jobs she would have preferred to avoid.
‘I have faced abuse on the sets’
in an interview with Times Now, the actor said, “You won’t believe it, I have faced abuse on the set. I faced harsh insults for no reason. The director used those words. There was no end in the situation, money was needed, right? She wouldn’t have done it if she had got something else. (I wasn’t in that situation by choice; I needed the money. If I had other options, I wouldn’t have done it),” she said.
Reflecting on her choice of films, she commented that some roles made her uncomfortable to the extent that she wished the films were never released. Gupta described an experience where his role was limited and incomplete.
‘I prayed that those films would never be released’
“I have done such a thing that I used to come home and pray to God that this picture should not be released. In one, Shakti was a member of Kapoor’s gang. that was my role (I have done such films that after going home I prayed that they would never release. Once, I did a film in which I played one of Shakti Kapoor’s gang members and was standing there. That was my role),” said the veteran actor.
Neena Gupta on plans to direct
When asked about direction, the 66-year-old actress said she has no plans to go behind the camera. She said that she is now satisfied with her acting career and does not want to pursue other avenues. Gupta said, given her current success, she prefers to focus on roles that interest her.

Despite such challenges, Gupta continued to pursue acting opportunities in both films and television for several decades. Her filmography shows a wide variety of roles, but she admits that not all of them bring her satisfaction.
