National Awards: Article 370 gets best film, Rajkumar Periyasamy gets best director title
Article 370 won the Best Feature Film award at the 72nd National Film Awards, while Rajkumar Periyasamy was honored as Best Director for his Tamil war drama Amaran. These accolades highlight the rich storytelling and cinematic excellence to be celebrated in Indian cinema for the year 2024.
Article 370 Emerged as the biggest winner at the 72nd National Film Awards and won Best Feature Film Respect while filmmaker Rajkumar Periyasamy won best director Awards for his Tamil biographical war drama Amaran.
Recognizing the excellence of Indian cinema across languages and genres, the winners of the 72nd National Film Awards were announced on Saturday.
Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale and produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, Article 370 was awarded the top prize for Best Feature Film. Starring Yami Gautam in the lead role, the political thriller is set against the backdrop of the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and tells the story of an intelligence officer on a high-risk mission. Yami won the Best Actress award for her performance in the film.
Meanwhile, the name of Prince Periyasamy was taken best director For Amaran. The Tamil film, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, is based on the life of Ashoka Chakra awardee Major Mukund Varadarajan and has received widespread praise for its story, performances and emotional depth. Amaran Also received Best Background Music and Editing awards.
