MTV VMAs 2024: Taylor Swift remembers 9/11 after Fortnite. Post Malone wins Best Collaboration and Song of the Summer

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards are currently underway at the UBS Arena in New York. Commonly known as the VMAs, the annual ceremony honors musicians for their best efforts throughout the year. Needless to say, wherever music awards are held, Taylor Swift is bound to dominate. The TTPD singer entered the night on Wednesday, September 11 with 12 nominations and has already won the Best Collaboration award for Fortnite with Post Malone.

Before thanking her collaborator on her hit track, Ms Swift remembered the victims of 9/11 from the VMAs stage, saying she was “thinking about what happened 23 years ago.” She added that “everyone who lost a loved one and everyone we lost” was in her thoughts and prayers as she assembled one of several Moonmen for the night.

While thanking the “people who worked so hard” with her on the Fortnite video, Swift addressed her collaborator directly, saying, “There’s a very clear reason why Post Malone is everyone’s favorite person to collaborate with in the music industry.” She explained that it’s because he’s “insanely talented”, “so versatile” and “down to earth”.

Swift then joked that it took a while to get her to stop addressing her as “ma’am.”

In addition to winning the Best Collaboration award, the duo also won the much-coveted ‘Best Song of the Summer’ award.

Taylor Swift leads the VMAs with 12 nominations, including Artist of the Year. Post Malone trails her with 11 nominations, while Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and Megan Thee Stallion have seven nominations each. SZA has six, followed by LISA, Teddy Swims and Olivia Rodrigo with four each. In addition to the competitive awards, the 2024 VMAs is honoring Katy Perry with the MTV Video Vanguard Award.
