The MTV VMAs are back this year, with the biggest artists set to perform at the event. MTV announced the four social categories of the 2024 Video Music Awards and their nominees. Voters can cast their votes in four categories: Best Group, Song of the Summer, performed by Hilton, and two brand new categories including VMA Most Iconic Performance and Best Trending Video.
Hilton will introduce the Song of the Summer category, which will honor the most popular summer 2024 song. Nominees include Swift, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande and Chapel Roan. From 11 a.m. ET on September 6 to 11 a.m. ET on September 10, fans can cast their votes in this category.
An all-around favorite group from across all genres is recognized in the Best Group category. Nominees include Imagine Dragons, NCT Dream, NSYNC, Coldplay, Newseen, Seventeen, Tomorrow X Together and Twenty One Pilots. Voting is open from September 3 at 11 a.m. ET to September 6 at 11 a.m. ET.
Some of the most iconic VMA performances in the show’s history have been honored in the most prestigious performance category. Nominations include Beyoncé’s pregnancy announcement after her performance of Love on Top and Swift’s first VMA performance with You Belong With Me.
This includes the iconic kiss that happened on stage during Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Madonna and Missy Elliott’s mash-up performance of Like a Virgin and Hollywood. Voting will run from 11 a.m. ET on September 10 to 11 a.m. ET on September 11.
The artist whose music and/or video inspired fans to create amazing content on the song or video is honored in another new category, Best Trending Video. Beyoncé, Camila Cabello ft. Playboi Carti, Chapel Roan, Charli XCX, Megan Thee Stallion ft. Yuki Chiba and Tinashe are among the nominees. Fan voting begins on September 2 at 11 a.m. ET and ends on September 3 at 11 a.m. ET.
Artists scheduled to perform at the awards ceremony include Katy Perry, Chapel Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, LL Cool J, Gloriella, Rauw Alejandro, Shawn Mendes, Anitta and Karol G. Fans can cast their votes for each category at the designated hours on MTV’s Instagram Story. The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards will be held on September 11 and will be hosted by Megan Thee Stallion.
