Motorola Edge 70 Fusion hands-on

Motorola Edge 70 Fusion hands-on

Motorola unveiled the Edge 70 Fusion at MWC and along with it it also launched a similarly named but different phone in India. And as it turns out after the fact, Moto will be selling both versions in Europe.

Motorola Edge 70 Fusion (5,200mAh)

We have to deal with the slimmer variant. The length of that phone is 162.8 mm and width is 75.6 mm, it is the same for both the variants. The difference comes in thickness – 7.21 mm for the thinner one and 7.99 mm for the other – as well as weight – 177 grams and 193 grams respectively.

This is due to the different batteries inside – the unit we have in front of us comes equipped with a 5,200mAh battery. The alternative model instead has a larger 7,000mAh battery.

The 5,200mAh Edge 70 Fusion measures 7.21 mm thick and weighs 177 grams.

We appreciate that Motorola didn’t pursue thinness to extremes with the 6.0mm thick Edge 70. However, it has a 4,800mAh battery, which means the thicker and heavier Fusion only gains 400mAh compared to its super-slim brother.

What we appreciate even more is that the company is giving consumers a choice – you can have a fairly thin phone or you can have a phone with amazing battery life. Unfortunately, we don’t have the 7,000mAh model available to test how big of an issue the extra bulk is.

The 2026 Fusion is longer and wider than last year’s Edge 60 Fusion (which was 161 mm longer and 73 mm wider). That’s because it has a larger display – the new OLED panel has a diagonal of 6.78″, up from 6.67″. This time it’s curved on all four sides, but that didn’t help keep the increase in height and width in check. The left and right sides are significantly more curved than the top and bottom.

The 5,200mAh Edge 70 Fusion is 0.8mm thinner than the old one and we feel it in the hand. But after handling the already very thin Edge 70, the Fusion doesn’t leave that feeling of “Wow, it’s so thin!” The response we got with the vanilla model. As for the 7,000mAh variant, it’s as thick as the Edge 60 Fusion (though a little heavier).

This is the first Motorola to use the Snapdragon 7S Gen 3, but we’re well familiar with this silicon from other brands – it’s featured on the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G, Realme 14 Pro+, and the Nothing Phone (3A) and (3A) Pro. All of which is to say, we don’t expect significant improvements in CPU and GPU performance compared to the Dimensity 7300 that powers the Edge 60 Fusion. Snapdragon is a little faster, but that’s “a little” as far as it goes.

The new Fusion has a standard suite of certifications for robustness. It is rated IP68 (dustproof, can withstand submersion in fresh water for up to 30 minutes) and IP69 (protection against high-pressure water jets). The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i, just like last year’s model.

The camera island looks identical to that of almost every Motorola currently on the market, including the older Fusion. However, the actual hardware inside is a little different than last year – the main 50MP 1/1.56″ sensor is a Lytia 710 instead of the 700C. It still has 1.0μm pixels (with a 4-in-1 binning option) and a wide f/1.8 lens with OIS. Next to it is a 13MP ultra-wide with a 120° f/2.2 lens (with PDAF and macro) Mode) and a 3-in-1 light sensor The selfie camera on the front is a 32MP unit (0.7µm, f/2.2).

This year, Motorola worked with Pantone to choose four colors – Orient Blue, Silhouette, Sporting Green and Country Air – and created a nylon and linen-inspired texture for the rear panel. We handled three of them (except Orient Blue).

The Motorola Edge 70 Fusion is now available in Europe priced at €420/£370 for the 8/256GB phone with a 5,200mAh battery. If you want a larger battery, add €20/£10 to the price. In either case, you’ll have to provide your own 68W TurboPower charger. The 7,000mAh variant will also launch in India in the next few days.
