Mohanlal’s mother Santkumari passed away

According to reports, Santkumari was suffering from neurological disorder for a long time. A native of Elanthoor village in Pathanamthitta district, Mohanlal’s mother shifted to Thiruvananthapuram during her early years due to her late husband Viswanathan Nair’s job. He was a former bureaucrat who served as Law Secretary in the Government of Kerala.

Despite her son’s immense success in Indian cinema over the years, Santhakumari lived in the family home in Thiruvananthapuram for a long time. However, he suffered a stroke a few years ago, after which he was shifted to Ernakulam.

Apparently, the actor was filming when he received the news of his mother’s demise. Soon, Mammootty also reached his residence to pay his last respects.

According to The Hindu, Santkumari’s death was confirmed by doctors at Amrita Hospital, where she was undergoing treatment. In earlier interviews, Mohanlal has often highlighted his mother’s support in shaping the person he is today.

Veteran stars like Chiranjeevi and Kamal Haasan have expressed grief over the demise of the actor’s mother. Both the stars wrote their touching words on their official social media handles and extended support to Mohanlal in his time of need.

According to a report by Onmanorama, his funeral and cremation is scheduled to take place on December 31, 2025.

Mohanlal’s work front

Mohanlal recently appeared in the lead role in the Telugu-Malayalam bilingual film Vrishabha. Directed by Nand Kishore, the fantasy action drama tells the story of a businessman who begins experiencing visions of his past life as a king, and fights a rival who turns out to be his son in the present day.

The film was released on December 25, 2025, on the occasion of Christmas. However, it received an underwhelming response from critics.

Additionally, Laleton was seen in an extended cameo in the Dileep-starrer Bha Bha Ba, directed by debutant Dhananjay Shankar. The film continues its successful run in theaters and ends with a hint of a sequel.

Looking ahead, Mohanlal’s next release will be the much-awaited Drishyam 3. Written and directed by Jeethu Joseph, the film will be the third installment in the franchise. Speculations suggest that it will be released in summer 2026.

Additionally, Mohanlal will soon begin work on his police comedy-action film directed by Tharun Murthy, tentatively titled L365.
