Mohanlal had earlier quit his post as president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) following the controversy over the Hema Committee report. In the months following his resignation, there was speculation that he might return to lead the committee once again. However, the veteran actor has dismissed all these rumors and has given his clarification on the matter.
According to a report in Onmanorama, Mohanlal has confirmed that he will not be returning as AMMA president. He further stated that he would not hold any position as an office-bearer within the committee.
This is not the first time that Mohanlal has talked about his resignation from the post of AMMA President. Earlier, the actor attended the launch ceremony of Kerala Cricket League and talked about the Hema Committee report.
Mohanlal was quoted by Mathrubhumi as saying, “If you ask why now we all have left our posts (AMMA), the answer is that the entire Malayalam film industry is accountable. The report sheds light on not just one but many issues. What exactly they are, you know better than me.”
The veteran actor further said that the entire Malayalam film industry should have been held responsible after the findings of the Hema Committee report were made public. However, Mohanlal thought that after sexual harassment cases came to light in Mollywood, everyone directed their questions only at AMMA.
Following the dissolution of the entire AMMA committee, a public statement announced that a new governing body would be elected within the next two months. “In the meantime, the outgoing Governing Body will continue to serve in a temporary capacity to ensure that AMMA’s ongoing activities, including health and treatment support for its respected members, proceed without any disruption,” the statement further said.
