In short

  • Meta is allegedly planning to launch a light mixed reality headset in 2026
  • Quest 4 models have been allegedly canceled amid a strategic change
  • Apple is also running to launch Ar glasses before meta

Meta is allegedly working on a new mixed reality headset that can reach the end of 2026. The device is called a light headset that connects a small external device for processing power, which helps lose weight on the user’s head. Vikas was first reported by UploadVR.

It is designed to look like a thick pair of the upcoming headset, the name of the “puffin”, and weigh about 110 grams. It cannot come up with any physical controller and rely on eye movements and hand gestures for control instead. Meta is still testing various performance options for the headset, and the final version is not yet fixed. The device is expected to run on the horizon, the same platform that provides strength to the company’s quest chain, but may be more purposeful for productivity and entertainment than gaming.

Interestingly, Meta has changed its roadmap for the upcoming headset. Earlier, the company was rumored to work on two versions of Quest 4, which internally called “Pismo Lo” and “Pismo High”, offering standard and high-end options. However, these headsets can now be canceled. Meta also demolished plans for a premium headset called “La Jola” last year, which was originally planned for 2027.

Now attention is felt on preparing a light puffin headset prepared for launch 2026. Meta Chief Technology Officer, Andrew Bosworth had earlier confirmed that the device was in the early stages of development.

While Meta prepares for its next step, Apple is also working aggressively on its own wearing Ar device. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple wants to bring its AR glasses to the market before Mata. Apple CEO Tim Cook is believed to have been directly included in the project, which is considered a major step in the company’s future hardware schemes.

Apple’s glasses are expected to be lighter enough to wear all day, but it is technically challenging to develop them. The company is still working how to fit high quality displays, a compact processor and a long -lasting battery into a slim frame. There is also an internal debate about whether glasses will include camera or media recording features keeping in mind the company’s strict privacy standards.

Both meta and apple are clearly betting on mixed reality and the next large platform is a boost reality. While the meta headset may come in 2026, Apple’s goal is to reach there soon and it is probably to change how people see the future of the wearing technology.
