Suspect shot, 1 dead and at least 9 injured after shooting in West Texas

At least a dozen people were shot in Midland Texas Friday morning, leading to an hours-long standoff, although it is not yet known what caused the mass shooting. The attacker was killed, Mayor Lori Blong confirmed. “At this time we have 11 known victims. At least one victim died at the scene,” Midland Mayor Lori Blong said Friday. “The active shooter situation has been resolved, and the shooter has been confirmed dead.”Officers heard gunshots coming from a building in the 4600 block of West Wall Street, Police Chief Greg Snow said in a statement. “Efforts are continuing to bring a safe resolution to the standoff with the shooter,” Snow said Friday morning.Brenda Bowen, manager of All American Collision, said she “saw a guy (suddenly) walk by and start shooting at cars.” His business closed as soon as the impasse emerged.Witnesses told CNN that a SWAT vehicle ran through a fence and officers entered an abandoned building where the suspect was hiding.Andrea Mendias at the nearby Loop 250 Collision Center said she saw about 20 SWAT officers rush inside. After a sheriff’s deputy came to view the store’s video, officers told Mendias they believed the suspect was in the building next door and “may be connected to the random shooting from last night.”Midland is in West Texas, midway between Fort Worth and El Paso.
