Michigan man Daniel Khan charged with kidnapping of 12-year-old girl; Child found using Amber Alert

A 23-year-old Michigan man has been charged with kidnapping after a missing 12-year-old girl from Iowa was found safe within an hour of an Amber Alert being issued.Police say the Waterloo girl was reported missing Sunday, prompting officials to issue a statewide Amber Alert. The case moved forward quickly after investigators traced the suspect’s vehicle to Coloma Township, about 400 miles away on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan.Officers soon located the vehicle and found the child inside with the suspect. Officials confirmed that the girl was safe when she was recovered.Following the investigation, Waterloo Police identified the suspect as 23-year-old Daniel Khan of Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is charged with second-degree kidnapping, indecent contact with a child and sexual exploitation of a minor.Khan was taken into custody and is currently being held in the Berrien County Jail in Michigan.According to the police, the Amber Alert played a vital role in the quick recovery of the child. An alert was issued immediately after the girl was reported missing, allowing law enforcement to take immediate action at the state level.Authorities have not released further details about how the girl was taken or the circumstances under which the incident occurred. Investigation is ongoing.The Waterloo Police Department said the case developed rapidly as information was received about the suspect’s movements, allowing officers to locate him in a different state within a short period of time.
