Jordan won Best Actor for his performance in director Ryan Coogler’s film sinners. She was nominated alongside Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Leonardo Dicaprio (one fight after another), Ethan Hawke (blue moon) and Wagner Moura (secret agent).
Jordan is the sixth male black actor to win in this category, following Sidney Poitier.lily of the field), Denzel Washington (training Day), Jamie Foxx (Ray), Forest Whitaker (last king of scotland) and Will Smith (king richard). Halle Berry wins Best Actor (Female) monster’s Ball.

Jordan took a moment to honor the legacy of the Black actors who won before him and thanked them for their contributions. He said, “I stand here because of those who came before me – Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker, Will Smith, and to be among those giants, among those great people, among my ancestors, my people.”
The actor further added, “Thank you to everyone in this room and everyone at home for supporting me throughout my career. I feel it. I know you guys want me to do well and I want to do that because you guys are betting on me.”
“Keep betting on me, and I’ll keep moving forward and being the best version of myself. I just want to say thank you to everyone in this room who has had something to do with my success. I love you guys,” Jordan concluded.
