Meryl Streep to lend her voice to sequel to award-winning documentary
The Devil Wears Prada actress, who is also an environmentalist, is set to narrate the conservation documentary Escape From Extinction Rewilding. Directed and produced by Matthew Brady through MRB Productions, the documentary will explore rewilding – a conservation approach involving the restoration of natural processes.
This approach aims to increase biodiversity, reduce human impact on ecosystems, and create environmental balance. Dr. Robin Ganzert, president and CEO of American Humane and the film’s executive producer, confirmed Streep’s involvement in an interview with Variety.
“This documentary, with powerful narration from Meryl Streep, not only brings to light the importance of rewilding, but it also highlights that you can’t protect what you don’t love, and you can’t love what you don’t know,” he told the outlet.
Streep’s contribution to nature and wildlife welfare
In addition to earning prestigious awards in her acting career — which includes three Oscars, 32 Golden Globe nominations, and eight awards — the actress is known for her work in wildlife conservation.
The Little Women actress has been involved in several campaigns supporting not only the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge but also organizations like the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). She has rallied in support of elephants, advocating for a ban on the use or possession of ivory and rhino horns.
According to a statement, Streep wants to use the documentary to translate her long-standing support for conservation into more radical action, as well as highlight her initiatives to protect biodiversity and endangered species.
Escape from Extinction Rewilding will release in cinemas on September 27, 2024
