Who is Sobhita Dhulipala?
Sobhita Dhulipala was born on 31 May 1992 in a Telugu Brahmin family. She was born in Andhra Pradesh, her father Venugopal Rao was a merchant navy engineer and her mother Santha Kamakshi was a primary school teacher. Sobhita also has a sister named Samantha, who works as a radiologist.
Shobhita grew up in Visakhapatnam and later moved to Mumbai at the age of sixteen for higher education. The actress enrolled in the HR College of Commerce and Economics at the University of Mumbai and studied corporate law.
Apart from studies, Dhulipala is a classical dancer trained in Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam. She was crowned the Navy Queen at the annual Navy Ball Pin 2010. During her college days, her friend was doing an internship at the Miss India office. Sobhita’s friend suggested her to audition for the upcoming beauty pageant, following which the actress auditioned hoping to clear the first round to prove to her friends that she could do it.
But fate had something else in store; next, Sobhita represented India at Miss Earth 2013 but failed to make it to the top 20. However, the actress bagged sub-titles like Miss Photogenic, Miss Beauty for a Cause, Miss Talent and Miss Beautiful Face. Apart from this, Dhulipala was also featured in the Kingfisher Calendar 2014.
Filmography of Sobhita Dhulipala
In 2016, Sobhita Dhulipala made her film debut with Raman Raghav 2.0. She appeared opposite Vicky Kaushal in the film. Although she was seen in a supporting role, her performance earned her a nomination at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016. The same year, she signed a three-film deal with Phantom Films in July.
Dhulipala entered the Telugu film industry in 2018 with Goodachari, co-starring Adivi Sesh. She played the role of a psychology graduate. However, Sobhita’s breakthrough came in 2019 with Amazon Prime’s original series Made in Heaven.
The actress played the role of Tara, a wedding planner. In the same year, she was seen in a pivotal role in an Indian fantasy spy thriller Netflix series, Bard of Blood. Dhulipala debuted in the Malayalam industry with Moothon, directed by Geetu Mohandas.
The actress was seen with Nivin Pauly. Whereas, Sobhita was seen with Emraan Hashmi in the Hindi film The Body.
The Made in Heaven actress appeared in the anthology Ghost Stories, where she played a pregnant woman. Her second most notable work was as Vaanathi in Mani Ratnam’s period film Ponniyin Selvan: I and its sequel, Ponniyin Selvan: II.
After this, Shobhita appeared in two seasons of The Night Manager with Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur. In 2024, Dhulipala achieved new heights of success and made her debut in American cinema.
The actress played an escort in Dev Patel’s directorial debut, Monkey Man, which she also starred in. Interestingly, Shobhita auditioned for the role even before her initial film debut and received a call from Patel in 2019 saying that “she was perfect for the role from the moment he saw her audition.”
When Sobhita Dhulipala opened up about colour shaming
Sobhita Dhulipala, who is now a popular face and is often known for her beautiful looks, once revealed about facing trolls because of her skin colour.
According to a TOI report, the actress said that she never knew she had a dark complexion until someone pointed it out to her. Furthermore, Shobhita said that she never felt belittled by such comments and felt that a dark complexion looks very sexy on both men and women.
Another report from DNA suggests that the beautiful actress was rejected for not being fair enough. She said, “When you first start out, everything is a struggle. I am not from the movies. I remember many times during my ad auditions I was told that I am not ‘fair’ enough. I was told straight to my face that I am not pretty enough, like you see in ads.”
Personal Life of Sobhita Dhulipala
After speculations of her dating Naga Chaitanya, the couple finally made it official as Nagarjuna announced the engagement of Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita Dhulipala on August 8, 2024.
Sharing heartwarming pictures from their intimate ring ceremony, Nagarjuna wrote, “We are delighted to announce the engagement of our son Naga Chaitanya to Sobhita Dhulipala at 9:42 AM today!! We are overjoyed to welcome her into our family. Congratulations to the happy couple! Wishing them a lifetime of love and happiness. God bless! 8.8.8 The beginning of eternal love.”
It is pertinent to mention that Naga Chaitanya was previously married to Samantha Ruth Prabhu. They met while shooting for a film together and eventually fell in love and started dating. They got married in 2017. Unfortunately, the two got divorced after four years i.e. in 2021.
