Tesla Vice President Raj Jeganathan has announced his exit from the EV maker. Raj had played a key role in the Elon Musk-led company for 13 years, overseeing several areas including AI infrastructure, IT. His resignation came just months after he was promoted to oversee the company’s sales and service. Jeganathan’s departure comes at a turbulent time for the electric car maker, which is currently grappling with falling sales, an aging vehicle lineup and a series of high-profile executive exits.

In a LinkedIn post, Raj Jeganathan shared the news of his exit. Reflecting on his tenure at the Elon Musk-led company, he said: “Tesla’s journey has been one of constant growth.”

Who is Raj Jeganathan?

Jeganathan joined Tesla in 2012 as a technical specialist in cloud security and IT. In more than a decade, he became vice president of IT, AI infrastructure, applications and information security. Last year, Jeganathan was appointed to oversee Tesla’s sales operations following the exit of North America sales chief Troy Jones. Although he had no prior sales experience.

Jeganathan was among the executives who reported directly to Elon Musk and was credited with promoting automation in Tesla’s sales operations.

His educational background includes B.Sc. Is included. in Computer Science from St. Joseph’s College of Arts and Science, Tamil Nadu and MCA from Sacred Heart College, Vellore. He also holds an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business. Before Tesla, he worked at Infosys, leading software development teams, and later worked in senior roles at Oracle and Microsoft.

Why did Raj Jeganathan leave Tesla?

Jeganathan’s exit comes at a difficult time for Tesla. The carmaker has reported slowing car sales as well as a 3 percent decline in revenue in 2025 – the first decline in its history. The Musk-led EV maker also faces increasing competition from Chinese automakers including BYD. Tesla sales were down 9 percent in 2025 and fell 16 percent in the fourth quarter year-over-year.

According to CNBC, Raj did not tell employees the reason for his departure. However, he is said to have stopped being active within the company since January.

Jeganathan’s exit follows a series of senior leadership departures at Tesla. Omed Afshar, who formerly oversaw sales and manufacturing in North America, left last year, and in 2025, Milan Kovac, who led engineering for the Optimus robot, and former software chief David Lau also exited.
