Many film personalities congratulated actor-turned-politician Vijay after he took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday. Pawan Kalyan, R Madhavan, Kamal Haasan and Prakash Raj were among the actors who shared messages for him on social media.

Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) has emerged as the largest party with 108 seats in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The party defeated the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the two Dravidian parties that had ruled the state since the 1960s.

Congratulatory messages on social media

Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, congratulated Vijay and the ministers who took oath with him. “I wish that the new government will fulfill the aspirations of the people, ensure transparent and progressive governance and lead Tamil Nadu towards greater development and prosperity,” he wrote on Twitter.

Madhavan shared Vijay’s picture on Instagram and wished him all the best. He said he hoped that Vijay’s tenure as Chief Minister would be beneficial and impactful for the state and he was proud of him. Also in the caption, Madhavan wrote, “God bless you and very proud of you.”

Kamal Haasan wrote in Tamil on X to congratulate Vijay after the swearing-in. He said that he is hopeful that under the leadership of TVK President and Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu will shine and reach new heights.

Prakash Raj also congratulated Vijay and wrote, “Best wishes to you for success in your new responsibility. May the state also develop under your rule.”

Presence of film industry at the event

The swearing-in ceremony also saw a strong presence from the film industry. The event was attended by political leaders, party workers, co-stars, family members, producers and long-time associates. Supporters gathered outside the stadium and raised slogans, while inside the guest list reflected Vijay’s long journey in Tamil cinema before playing his new role.

Also present were Trisha, who has worked with Vijay in about five films, and Vijay’s parents, SA Chandrashekhar and Shoba Chandrashekhar.

Producer KL Narayan was also present at the ceremony. He is producing Vijay’s last film Jan Naygan. The release date of the film, which is in limbo pending CBFC certification, has not been announced yet.
