Actor Manoj Bajpayee, who is celebrated to create a good balance between mainstream and independent cinema, has expressed concern over the increasing determination of the film industry with the number of box office. Calling this trend a self-destructive “demon” made by the producers, Bajpai warned that the tireless pursuit of business success was pushing small, meaningful films on the edge.

The comment comes before the release of his latest film ‘Jugnuma’ directed by Ram Reddy, which is set to hit theaters on 12 September. In an interview Hindustan TimesBajpai expressed his rejection to equalize the value of a film with his financial performance, saying that this mentality is particularly harmful to independent films that already struggle for visibility and resources.

“Chhoti, independent films always experience struggle,” she said, “was a brief phase when OTT platforms were welcoming such films. But very soon, he shifted his attention to mainstream content and star-operated projects.”

The actor of the ‘Inspector Zende’ said that this trend can do nothing more than a product, separate it from its artistic and cultural value. He mentioned the career of veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan, given that icon like Bachchan also adopted small, material-driven films like ‘Abhimaan’ and ‘Mili’. “Only ‘Don’, after a point, will become monotonous. There is a place for stories beyond commercial blockbusters,” Bajpayya commented.

He also highlighted the risks involved in commercial filmmaking, explaining that the potential benefits rarely were required to be physically physical. He said, “Everyone involved in making or buying commercial films knows that it is a gambling. It does not always pay,” he said.

The disappointment of the ring increased to the changing mobility of OTT platforms. He said, “Initially, he was a supporter of independent materials, but now he is following the mainstream faces and themes. This change reduces the creative spirit that cinema needs to flourish.”

Despite the difficult battle, Bajpai confirmed his commitment to independent cinema. “We are also fine with our own struggles,” he said, emphasizing that artistic integrity should not be sacrificed for box office numbers.
