Ajit Kumar’s Mankatha to re-release in January 2026?
According to a report in Let’s Cinema, Ajith Kumar’s blockbuster action crime thriller Mankatha is likely to re-release in January 2026. The highly acclaimed film marked the superstar’s 50th cinematic venture and became a huge box-office hit upon its original release.
Recently, the film’s director Venkat Prabhu shared a tweet which read, “Kingmaker.” The wording is a clear allusion to an iconic line from the Ajith Kumar starrer, sparking fresh speculations about the film’s re-release. However, the official announcement and release date has not been confirmed by the makers yet.

Mankatha is the story of Vinayak Mahadevan, a cunning and suspended Mumbai police officer, who joins a gang planning to steal Rs 500 crore of illegal IPL betting. However, his real agenda is to deceive everyone and grab the cash for himself.
His plan begins to spiral out of control as Vinayak becomes betrayed and manipulated, while he engages in a high-stakes cat-and-mouse game with a relentless police officer and local goons. The film unfolds with several twists and turns, revealing that no one is as they seem, with Vinayak eventually declaring himself the “kingmaker”.
Along with Ajith Kumar in the lead role, the film stars Arjun Sarja, Trisha Krishnan, Raai Lakshmi, Anjali, Andrea Jeremiah, Vaibhav, Ashwin Kakumanu, Premji Amaren and many others in lead roles.
Written and directed by The GOAT director Venkat Prabhu, the film has music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
Ajit Kumar’s next film
After the success of Good Bad Ugly, Ajith Kumar is all set to reunite with director Adhik Ravichandran for his next project, the collaboration has been confirmed by the filmmaker himself. The film, tentatively titled AK64, is expected to begin shooting during the racing off-season, with the superstar focusing on cinema until the next racing season begins.
Reportedly, the upcoming project is designed to appeal to a wider audience, while Good Bad Ugly was primarily designed keeping Ajith Kumar’s fan base in mind.
