Continuing measures to cut its radical cost, the Manchester United Football Club (MUFC) co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has closed the Staff Canteen in Old Trafford. According to a report, the employees will be offered fruits instead of free lunch. The Guardian.
Staff canteen is expected to close by the end of the week. Currently, employees receive admission using a pass that allows free hot food, tea and coffee with some drinks that are charged. A similar step is expected to be implemented on the Carrington Training Base of United, in which only lunch is with the players for free. Non-playing staff will be offered soup and bread.
Sir Ratcliffe has been trying to stem a loss of more than £ 300 million in the last three years. With the plan of more redundancy, United on Monday (24 February) announced a change plan with the aim of returning to profitability.
“The objective of the Parivartan Scheme is to return the club in profitability after 2019 after the loss of five consecutive years. This will create a more solid financial platform, from where the club can improve the football success and infrastructure of men and women.

Sir Ratcliffe’s Penny Pinning Strategy
This is not the first example that the cost-cutting measures launched by Mr. Raycliffe have affected employees. In December last year, Sir Ratcliffe performed £ 40,000 in annual funding to the Association of former Manchester United Players (AFMUP).
Charity used charity money to host the incidents, where former players rubbed shoulders with others who signed professional forms with the club but never made the first team’s presence.
