Mammootty on Hema committee report: There is no power in cinema
Malayalam superstar Mammootty has expressed his support for the Hema Committee report and stressed the need to implement its recommendations. He also said that the court should decide the punishment for the accused.

Malayalam superstar Mammootty has finally given his reaction on the Hema Committee report today i.e. September 1. In a post shared on Facebook, the veteran actor explained why he waited so long to share his views on the report’s findings and also said that the court should decide the punishment. He said that there is no powerhouse in cinema and cinema should survive.
Mammootty wrote in his Facebook post, “I wholeheartedly welcome and support the recommendations and solutions suggested in the Hema Committee report. It is now time for all film industry bodies to join hands and implement them. Police investigations are underway on the complaints that have surfaced.”
The Hema Committee report brought to light rampant sexual harassment cases in the Malayalam film industry and also highlighted how people in powerful positions in the industry constantly harassed female actors and technicians.
Mammootty further wrote, “The full version of Justice Hema Committee report is before the court. Let the police investigate honestly. Let the court decide the punishment. There is no ‘powerhouse’ in cinema. Cinema is not a field where such things can exist. If there are any legal barriers then the practical recommendations of the Hema Committee report should be implemented. After all, cinema must survive.”
Explaining why he took time to respond to the report’s findings, he said, “The organisation (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) and its leadership should respond first. I believe I as a member should give my opinion only after their response, that’s why I waited so long.”
The note is as follows:
Following the release of the Hema Committee report, cases have been filed against several big names in the industry, including actor Jayasurya and actor-politician Mukesh. Superstar Mohanlal also resigned from the post of AMMA President (Malayalam Movie Artistes Association).
