Malayalam actor Mammootty has finally reacted to the ongoing crisis within the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), days after the entire executive committee of the organization including president Shweta Menon resigned following a turbulent general body meeting.

When asked about the ongoing controversy within AMMA, Mammootty initially responded with humour, “I was wondering why you haven’t asked this yet.” The 74-year-old actor then refused to give specific details and instead urged patience. He said, “Let things unfold, a decision will be reached; that’s fine.”

When journalists pressed him further, Mammootty suggested that the situation should be allowed to unfold naturally. “We can see things as they come, right? After all, the next moment is not in our hands. All problems must be solved, and they will be. These are just small things, aren’t they?” He commented, trying to defuse the crisis, while expressing confidence that the issues within the organization would eventually be resolved.

Mammootty made the remarks while interacting with the media after receiving the Padma Bhushan from President Draupadi Murmu during the second civil investiture ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

Mammootty’s comments come at a time when AMMA is facing one of its biggest internal crises in recent years. The latest controversy erupted when the organisation’s 17-member executive committee, headed by actor and AMMA’s first woman president Shweta Menon, resigned following a no-confidence motion and heated discussion during the annual general body meeting in Kochi.

The crisis escalated after Menon publicly criticized the previous committee and alleged financial irregularities in the earlier functioning of the organization. She claimed that her committee had identified inconsistencies in the accounts prior to her tenure and said that she was unwilling to remain a “play doll” or “puppet” within the organisation.

Following the mass resignation, AMMA’s general body appointed an ad-hoc committee led by actor and Palakkad MLA Ramesh Pisharody to oversee the organization until new elections are held. Almost a year after the fallout caused by the Justice Hema Committee report, the developments have once again put the influential Malayalam film body under intense scrutiny.
