Kaviyoor started her acting career with theatre. Over the years, she has acted in over 1000 films. She is known for playing the mother of actors like Mohanlal, Naseeruddin and Mammootty in many Malayalam films.
Kaviyoor Ponnamma won the Kerala State Award not once but four times during her long career. She appeared in projects like Thaniyavarthanam, Bharatham and Sukritham.
The actress was married to screenwriter Maniswamy and is survived by her daughter Bindu.
