The makers earlier released a statement saying, “It is with a heavy heart that we share this update with our valued stakeholders and audiences. The eagerly awaited release of Jan Nayakan on January 9 has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control.”

Addressing fans directly, the statement further said, “We deeply understand the anticipation, excitement and emotions associated with this film and this decision is not an easy one for any of us. The new release date will be announced as soon as possible. Till then, we humbly request your patience and continued love. This delay was caused by the requirement to cut and mute dialogues before the film could be considered for certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Despite the filmmakers making the necessary modifications, the certificate was not issued on time, leading the team to approach the Madras High Court. The court reserved the order after hearing arguments from both sides, resulting in the planned release being cancelled.

Meanwhile, Malavika will be seen in Prabhas starrer The Raja Saab, which is scheduled to release on January 9.
