Lee: Andy Samberg reflects on his personal pain behind playing photojournalist in upcoming war film

Andy Samberg is set to share screen space with Kate Winslet in the upcoming war film Lee. The actor will play photojournalist David E. Sherman, who will be alongside the actress, who is set to play Vogue model-turned-photographer Lee Miller.

While talking about the role Samberg would play, Sherman brought up the controversial photo of Miller and Adolf Hitler in a bathtub. Speaking to the media portal, the Brooklyn Nine Nine star revealed the difficulties he faced in playing the role amidst the backdrop of the Nazi era and the Holocaust backdrop.

Speaking to the media outlet, Samberg shared, “You try to pick up the importance of the moment, right? You try to contain all that sorrow and all that horror into your soul, and try to represent how terrible it would be to bear witness to it.

He further added, “I would be lying if I said I didn’t think about my family, my lineage and how many people were lost. And all the stories I’ve been told about it.”

The Palm Springs actor is known for his comedic roles and comic timing. As for Lee, the actor has gone all out to cast himself in the role of a war photojournalist who was surrounded by stories and controversies.

The SNL star is proving his versatility to his viewers and fans across the country.

Earlier, in an interview with Digital Spy, the actor had mentioned that he was hesitant about playing the role in Lee. Samberg revealed that it was Winslet who personally called the actor for the role, leading the comedian to sign on to the film.

He said, “There was hesitation. I heard that Kate Winslet wanted to play my role in the film she was making, so I immediately said yes.”

As far as the film is concerned, it will revolve around the true story of Lee Miller, who was a former cover girl of Vogue and later took up the profession of a war photographer in World War II.

Samberg and Winslet will be joined by Marion Cotillard, Judge Law and Andrea Riseborough.

This film is available to watch in theatres.
