Dhaka: Former Bangladesh Army Major Muzaffar Hussain – allegedly the mastermind and one of the killers of PM Tariq Rahman’s father and former President Ziaur Rahman – has been arrested after being at large for 45 years.The arrest of Hussain – who has been identified in historical records and case documents as the man who allegedly fired fatal shots at the President at the Chittagong Circuit House on May 30, 1981 – is the six-month-old Tariq-led BNP government’s first major success in its search for Ziaur Rahman’s killers.Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police said the former officer was arrested from Banani DOHS area of ​​Dhaka on Wednesday midnight. Government sources said that after completing the legal formalities, the police handed over Hussain to the Bangladesh Army to complete his pending court martial processes.In the early hours of May 30, 1981, a group of middle-ranking army officers attacked the Circuit House and assassinated Ziaur Rahman, founder of the ruling BNP. Authorities claimed that Hussain and Captain Mosleh Uddin were among the officers directly involved in the assassination.
