Malayalam movies Marco and Rifle Club continue the golden streak of Mollywood cinema this year. Both the Christmas releases are doing great business at the box office, ending the year on a positive note.

Marco rocks with great words; Earned Rs 30 crore globally in the opening weekend.

Marco starring Unni Mukundan in the lead role started a positive conversation among the audience. The film has been making waves for its gruesome and brutal treatment, with a section of the audience claiming it to be the most violent film in Indian cinema.

On its opening day, the Hanif Adeni directed neo-noir action drama opened at the box office with earnings of Rs 4.55 crore. It had a slight bounce and collected Rs 4.95 crore and Rs 5.25 crore on the second and third day at the Kerala box office. The total collection of Marco in its home state reached Rs 14.75 crore.

Marco is doing great business even outside its borders. The film has grossed over Rs 30 crore at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend.

Rifle Club has performed well at the box office; Content wins hearts

Rifle Club, directed by Aashiq Abu and starring VijayRaghavan, Dileesh Pothan, Anurag Kashyap, Hanumankind and others, is trending very well at the box office. The film opened in Kerala with a gross of Rs 1.25 crore. Furthermore, it collected Rs 1.05 crore and Rs 1.30 crore on its second and third day respectively. As per estimates, the action-thriller earned Rs 1.50 crore on Sunday (day 4), taking its extended opening weekend total to Rs 5.10 crore.

The film has found audiences even beyond its borders. Rifle Club grossed approximately Rs 10 crore at the worldwide box office. Apart from its impressive performance at the box office, the action film garnered great word-of-mouth and won hearts with its content.

All eyes are on Mohanlal’s upcoming release Barrows 3D

While both Marco and Rifle Club have found their audience and are doing impressive business at the box office, it will be interesting to see how they perform after the release of Barrows 3D.

Barrows 3D, starring Mohanlal in the lead, is a much bigger film than both the titles. The Malayalam language film is planned to be released across India on Christmas Day. Interestingly, this fantasy drama film was directed by Mohanlal himself.

If Barrows 3D manages to perform as expected, Malayalam cinema will enter the New Year with a bang.
