This comment led to criticism from many social media users, some of whom accused him of insulting those who analyze films online. Responding to the backlash during his visit to Kerala on Tuesday, Balaji said his comments were misunderstood and he was asking the audience to watch the film without any preconceived notions.
RJ Balaji explained the intention behind the comment
Addressing the controversy, Balaji said, “I had given a statement at the Hyderabad event. I said so.” Karuppu It is made for people who celebrate cinema in theatres, not for those who analyze it on social media. But people online started criticizing that line and criticizing me.”
He said that his intention was not to dissuade review or discussion of films. He said, “My only request to the audience was not to come to the theaters with preconceived notions. I want you to come to the theaters with an open mind, have fun, and after watching the film, tell me whether you liked it or not. In my opinion, once a product hits the market, everyone should talk about it and review it. I was once a critic, and now I have become a filmmaker.”
Karuppu, a conscious entertainer
Balaji also talked about the writing process behind the film and said that the team has put a lot of effort into shaping its tone and message. He said, “Just because I ask you to come with the mindset of enjoying the film, it doesn’t mean it’s a mindless entertainer. It’s a very mindful entertainer. My writers, Ashwin, Rahul and I have put a lot of effort into making a film that gives the right message, treats women with respect and treats the audience as intelligent.”
