Actress Karisma Kapoor, who is considered one of the best dancers of her time, has become a judge of India’s Best Dancer 4. She shares the panel with choreographers Geeta Kapoor and Terence Lewis. Ahead of the grand premiere, the Bollywood star spoke exclusively to India Today about her dancing journey and chose the best dancer from the Kapoor family.

“This is a difficult question. I am not trying to be diplomatic but I can’t really say. There have been some great talents in my family, whether it was Shammi uncle (Shammi Kapoor), Shashi uncle (Shashi Kapoor), Kareena (Kareena Kapoor Khan) or Ranbir (Ranbir Kapoor). Then there is Chintu uncle (Rishi Kapoor) and my father (Randhir Kapoor), so I will say about all of them,” she said with a smile.

Given that the actress is a natural dancer, we wondered if there was ever a time when a filmmaker added a dance number just because she was part of the film: “No, it never happened. Now I can’t stand here and say ‘yes ye kaafi baar hua hai’ (it has happened many times). But I must add that I am grateful to my audience, my directors, producers, music directors, playback singers, choreographers and co-actors for giving me such wonderful opportunities. It is because of them that I have such a repertoire of good dance numbers.”

And when asked to choose her favourite dancing partner among the many heroes, Karisma laughed and said, “Now you are going to put me in trouble. I can’t answer that.”
