Omkara is one of Vishal Bhardwaj’s best films till date. The film featured actors like Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi and Bipasha Basu. Actress Dolly Ahluwalia, who worked as a costume designer in this 2006 film, recently praised Kareena Kapoor and shared an anecdote from the set.
Recently during an interview with The Punjabi Link, Vicky Donor actress Dolly Ahluwalia shared her experience of working with the star cast of Omkara.
Dolly revealed that she often visited Kareena Kapoor’s house for costume trials. Dismissing any rumours about Kareena, the costume designer highlighted her kind nature.
Talking about the actress, she said, “Kareena is magical. She is so sweet. People said a lot when I started doing this, but she is a wonderful person.”
Dolly also spoke about working with Bipasha Basu and said that she was quite honest on the sets, contrary to rumours that she threw tantrums.
Talking about Vivek Oberoi, the Vicky Donor actress said that he was mischievous while shooting for Omkara. She emphasised that he was “naughty” and not “evil”. She called Vivek and Ajay Devgn the “biggest pranksters” on the set.
The costume designer-actress revealed that she once had to face a lot of problems Cannabis Omkara team members fell unconscious after eating laddus during the shooting.
When asked how director Vishal Bharadwaj reacted to this, he said that the filmmaker got a bit upset, but he knew it was nothing serious. Vishal was aware of his pranks and the situation became a light-hearted memory from the sets.
Based on William Shakespeare’s play Othello, Omkara also starred Konkana Sen Sharma, Naseeruddin Shah and Deepak Dobriyal in pivotal roles.
Dolly Ahluwalia, who started her career with Shekhar Kapur’s 1993 film Bandit Queen, has worked as a costume designer in many Bollywood films. Apart from Omkara, she has designed costumes for films like Love Aaj Kal, Aaja Nachle, Rockstar, Haider, Kaminey and many others.
She gained recognition as an actress with the 2012 film Vicky Donor starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Yami Gautam.
