Karan Johar supports Alpha amid trolling, praises Alia Bhatt’s drama

Amid online trolling, filmmaker Karan Johar has come out in support of Alia Bhatt’s film Alpha. He praised the actor’s theatricality and urged the audience to celebrate big screen cinema instead of spreading negativity.

Filmmaker Karan Johar on Saturday supported actress Alia Bhatt’s latest release. Alpha Amid online trolling. The 54-year-old director-producer described its debut as a “solid debut” at a time when theaters are still struggling to attract audiences. The film, released on July 3 as part of Yash Raj Films’ (YRF) spy universe, has received mixed responses from critics and audiences. However, Johar said that the audience reaction matters more than the online negativity.

In a post on Instagram Stories, Johar praised the 33-year-old actor’s “stardom and dramatic charm” as well as his “undeniable talent”. He argued that large-scale theatrical performances like Alpha should be appreciated rather than “poisoned”.

Sharing his thoughts on the launch of the film, Johar wrote, “When viewership is a challenge, Alpha Makes a solid start! It emphasizes several things; The audience is far above online negativity, and they are true warriors.”

He then went on to praise Bhatt’s screen presence and the film’s big screen ambition. “Alia Bhatt’s stardom and dramatic charm and undeniable talent and impact of big screen spectacle is undeniable, and YRF has an ongoing franchise and an effort to create dramatic tentpole experiences that requires our applause, not any toxicity! (sic)” Johar wrote.

He ended his note by urging the audience to stay away from constant online interactions and enjoy movies in theatres. “Please relax and celebrate that cinemas are breathing!!! Go watch Alpha And stop spreading doom!! (sic)” he wrote.

Directed by Shiv Rawail and produced by Aditya Chopra, Alpha It follows two estranged women who are drawn back together when they uncover the truth behind covert Operation Odyssey and face a powerful threat.
