Kantara: Chapter 1 has been slated to release in theaters on October 2, 2025. Directed by Rish Shetty, the mythological action drama is being distributed by Prithviraj Productions of Prithviraj Sukumaran in Kerala. However, it appears that the film is ready to face the ban in the state.
What Kantara: Chapter 1 is banned in Kerala?
According to a report by Onmanorama, the President of the Film Exhibitors Union of Kerala (Feuok). However, the organization is opposing these conditions, due to which a ban has been imposed.
Speaking with media personnel, Vijaykumar said, “As per our current conditions, other language films being distributed in Kerala can demand only 50% profit from film collection in the first few days. But Prithviraj Productions has demanded 55%, and that too for a period of two weeks.
Additionally, the president of Feauk stressed that Malayalam filmmakers usually get only 30–40% shares when Malayalam films are distributed outside Kerala.
Vijayakumar explained, “Thudram was a huge hit in Kerala, but when the film was distributed outside the state, producer M Ranjith suffered a huge loss. Large production houses demanded a huge profit share for screening other language release in Kerala, but when films are excluded, he does not have 30 to 40 percent revenue stake.”
Allegedly, the restriction is already effective, and Prithviraj Productions has not yet responded to the association to resolve the issue.
