Kannada filmmaker Sadananda Suvarna passes away at 92
Kannada filmmaker Sadananda Suvarna died at the age of 92 due to age-related illness on July 16. The filmmaker is best known for his 13-part television series ‘Gudda Bhoot’.

Kannada film and theatre veteran Sadananda Suvarna died on July 16 due to age-related ailments at a private hospital in Mangaluru. He was 92.
Born on December 31, 1931 in Mulki near Mangaluru, Suvarna moved to Mumbai as a young boy, where he studied in a night school and worked in a private company.
Karnataka BJP MP Brijesh Chowta expressed his condolences on Suvarna’s demise. His note, written in Kannada, can be roughly translated into English as: “I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the demise of Shri Sadananda Suvarna, he was a director, veteran stage actor, director of Tulu-Kannada plays who spread the story of Tulunad in the state through the TV channel ‘Gudda Bhuta’. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti.”

Suvarna produced ‘Ghatashraddha’, which was the directorial debut of Girish Kasaravalli. Their collaboration produced several cinematic masterpieces, with Suvarna serving as the executive producer for ‘Mane’, ‘Kubi Maathu Iyala’ and ‘Tabarana Kathe’, which were directed or written by Kasaravalli.
Suvarna is best known for her 13-part television series ‘Gudda Bhoot’. She produced and directed the same series for Doordarshan in 1991. The series gave a significant opportunity to veteran film actor Prakash Raj.
Her documentary ‘Huchchu Manassina Hatthu Mukagalu’ on Jnanpith Award winner Dr K Sivarama Karanth received wide acclaim. Suvarna also directed the popular play ‘Court Martial’ and was a recipient of the BV Karanth Award.
