‘Kanguva’ vs ‘Vettaiyan’ clash averted as Surya gives way to Rajinikanth
Suriya confirmed the postponement of ‘Kanguva’ at a recent event in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He also revealed that Rajinikanth’s ‘Vettaiyaan’ will have a solo release on October 10.

At the audio launch of his brother Karthi’s film ‘Maiyazhagan’ in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, actor Surya announced that the release of his film ‘Kanguva’ has been postponed. Directed by Siruthai Siva, the film was set to release next year in 2019. Clash with Rajinikanth’s ‘Vettaiyaan’ Surya requested his fans to stand with him, saying that Rajinikanth is senior to him and hence the event has been postponed.
Speaking at the event, he said, “For over two and a half years, more than 1000 people have worked hard day and night for ‘Kanguva’ to present a special film in Tamil cinema. Starting from Siva, the entire cast and crew worked hard for two and a half years in harsh climatic conditions. I am sure the hard work will not go in vain. I am sure you (audience) will give him all the love and respect. When he arrives, he will get everything.”
He added, “‘Vettaiyan’ is releasing on October 10. We should push the film out of respect. He (Rajinikanth) is senior to me. He started acting when I was born. He has been the face of Tamil cinema for over 50 years. I think it would be best if the superstar’s film comes first. I think you will be with me.”
Surya further added, “‘Kanguva’ is a child. A child’s birthday is the day he is born. To celebrate his birthday and make it a festival, I am sure you will be with me. I will need your love and support. Please pray for the team of ‘Kanguva’. May this be an important day for everyone.”

‘Kangua’ is a historical drama Suriya plays the lead role. This mega-budget entertainer took two and a half years to make. The film was scheduled to release in multiple languages on October 10. However, when the team of ‘Vettaiyan’ also decided on the same release date, Suriya and the makers of ‘Kanguva’ decided to postpone the film.
