Kanguva, which stars Bobby Deol and Disha Patani in lead roles alongside Suriya, is just hours away from hitting the screens. The period drama directed by Siva has recorded unprecedented advance sales.
Kanguva registers solid growth at Rs 6.20 crore in Tamil Nadu, eyes opening above Rs 15 crore
While advance booking for Kanguva was opened to a limited space earlier in the week, the full pre-sale finally opened on Wednesday morning, 12 hours before the release day. The pre-sales of the film saw a huge jump today and ended on an encouraging note. As of 11 pm (November 13), Kanguva recorded pre-sales of Rs 6.20 crore on opening day in Tamil Nadu alone.
This is the fifth highest growth for Tamil films this year after The Goat, Vettaiyaan, Amaran and Indian 2. The film is poised to take an opening of Rs 13 to 15 crore at the Kollywood box office.
Other key markets like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana contributed significantly and recorded good pre-sales, while Karnataka and North India remained slow. Kanguva’s pan-India pre-sale on opening day currently stands at Rs 12.50 crore.
The nationwide opening for Kanguva can be expected to be around Rs 20 crore, however, a lot will depend on spot bookings and walk-ins.
Kanguva makes pre-sales of Rs 26.50 crore globally in the opening weekend
In addition to its domestic progress, the mystical period drama also did well in overseas pre-sales. For the opening day, international markets contributed pre-sales of US$675K, taking its global advance booking to Rs 18 crore. The film is set to take an opening of Rs 30 crore worldwide, which will become the best opening of Suriya’s career.
The film also recorded impressive pre-sales of Rs 26.50 crore in the opening weekend. Of this, Rs 20 crore came from domestic markets, while US$775K contribution came from foreign markets. This marks Surya’s strong comeback on the big screen.
Now, all eyes are on Kanguva’s oral speech, initial public reception and walk-ins. If it gets the green signal from the audience, the film’s collection will see an immediate increase. For now, it is set for a record opening, but to justify its pan-India status, it will have to woo the money-spending crowds throughout the weekend and beyond.
