Kangana Ranaut’s much-awaited political drama, Emergency, is likely to release in theaters after the Punjab elections. This film was earlier scheduled to release on 6 September. Now, India Today Digital has exclusively learned that the makers are targeting a post-election release.

Now, a source close to the production said, “After agreeing to all the terms and conditions of the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification), the team will probably release the film after the Punjab elections. The film is really close to everyone’s heart and will be loved by the audience.” got to see the film, so after much deliberation and in order not to hurt anyone’s sentiments, the entire team decided that after the elections are over, they will decide on a suitable day and release the film at a calmer time. CBFC issues U/A certificate for emergency and suggests some cuts.

Emergency, directed by and starring Ranaut, narrates the political events of the 1975 Emergency imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Since the release of the trailer, the film has generated a lot of buzz and has faced criticism from Sikh organizations for alleged misrepresentations. Due to this the release of the film had to be postponed.

Although the exact release date is a secret, it is clear that the makers are keeping a close eye on the political calendar, ensuring that Emergency arrives at the opportune time.
