Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut has come out in support of Aishwarya Rai after the actor’s look at this year’s Cannes Film Festival was trolled by a section of social media. Aishwarya, a regular at the festival, once again turned heads with her fashion choices and Kangana said she looked “very good”.

In a post on her Instagram Stories, Kangana responded to the criticism and said that Aishwarya should not owe anyone an explanation for her style. Along with the buzz around Aishwarya’s appearance at Cannes, attention was also focused on her daughter Aaradhya Bachchan, who made her red carpet debut with her mother during the festival.

Kangana wrote, “Fashion and style is self-expression. It’s their own interpretation of life and their outlook. No woman owes anything to anyone. Aish is looking great! For those of you who want to see her any other way, why don’t you show what you’ve got? (sic).”

He added, “She’s not here to please you. She’s glorious. If you’re not used to seeing older women on the red carpet, get used to it now. Thank you.”

Reclaiming the Riviera: Aishwarya Rai on the Cannes red carpet

Aishwarya, who has represented L’Oréal Paris at Cannes since 2003 as a global brand ambassador, walked the red carpet in a blue gown by designer Amit Aggarwal. The dress, called Luminara, was described as a garment built around the concept of light in motion, translating light as energy, movement and force through sculptural construction and engineered craftsmanship.

The actor completed the look with a shiny dupatta, soft loose curls, pink-toned makeup, red lipstick and diamond-studded jewelery with blue stones.

Later, Aishwarya wore a pastel pink gown with floral embellishments and a flowing sheer cape by Sophie Couture for the “Lights on Women’s Worth” event, which was attended by Longoria, Ariana Greenblatt, Amy Jackson and others. For the closing ceremony of the 79th edition of the International Film Festival, the 52-year-old wore a layered white tuxedo with feathered details, feather boa and curly blow-dried hair.

Aaradhya Bachchan also remained the topic of discussion during the festival. She appeared with Aishwarya at an event on Friday evening, her first official red-carpet appearance with her mother, posing for photographers in a ruby-red gown with a matching cape.

Aaradhya has been accompanying Aishwarya to the Cannes Film Festival since she was a child and her latest appearance has drawn attention to the actor’s Cannes trip this year.
