Kangana Ranaut clarifies on ‘very British’ nurse uniform comment: Corrections made
Kangana Ranaut clarified that her comments on nurses’ uniforms reflected a personal viewpoint and acknowledged that reforms had already been implemented years ago. The actor spoke about the issue during the promotions of Bharat Bhagya Vidhaata, in which she plays a nurse.

She said, “The uniform I wore in our film is associated with a very personal experience for me. However, I met several nurses who told me that this issue had already been addressed a few years ago.”

“She said that the nurses themselves felt that some reforms were needed regarding uniforms, and changes were subsequently made. Many institutions now have their own dress codes and guidelines. The concern that I personally felt was actually addressed about seven or eight years ago,” Manikarnika Actor added.
Kangana’s clarification comes after an earlier interview with the news agency ANIIn which she talked about the dress code adopted by nurses and suggested that traces of the British era uniform system were still visible in the profession.
He said, “I think the dress code of British nurses is still in practice. Like doctors, our nurses can wear whatever they want to wear; they get a code. But our nurses, whether the weather is hot or cold, have a kind of exotic look. That’s my personal opinion. But in this film, we have worked with honesty and dignity. Shape and size don’t matter, your uniform is your duty.”
During the conversation, Kangana emphasized that her views were personal and her intention was not to undermine the profession.

The 40-year-old actor added, “I personally think it’s a very British look – adding a pin, a hat or a belt over the uniform is a US Navy influence, as it was during the First and Second World Wars.”
The actor also suggested that nurses’ uniforms should be “Indianized”. While Kangana highlighted the British influence on traditional nursing attire, the uniforms worn by nurses across India have evolved significantly in the decades since independence, with many health care institutions adopting more modern and practical dress codes.
