Kamala Harris confronted an anti-Israel protester who interrupted her speech at a Detroit Democratic fundraiser. The video of the incident is being widely shared on social media.

In a 20-second video shared on social media, Vice President Harris is seen beginning her speech at the Michigan Democratic Party Legacy Dinner by addressing the war in Gaza, possibly aimed at defusing any tensions. She delivered the speech on Saturday (June 8) night.

However, this had the opposite effect, as many spectators began shouting, including one woman repeatedly yelling, “This is genocide!”

In response, Harris paused her speech to directly address the female protester.

“For the last eight months, President Biden and I have been working every day to end this conflict — I’m speaking out now. I value and respect your voice, but I’m speaking out now,” she said.

After this the security personnel threw the woman out of the venue.

Despite the disruption, Kamala Harris acknowledged the protesters’ message.

“It’s time to end this war,” Harris said.

According to the New York Post, her words silenced the audience, allowing her to continue her speech without interruption.

The disruption during the US vice president’s speech highlighted the significant Arab-American population in Michigan, particularly around Detroit.

More than 300,000 residents of Arab descent, many of whom have ties to Gaza, live in the state. For these citizens, the conflict is deeply personal, affecting their families and friends, reports the New York Post.
