In short
- Kamal Haasan praised Shiv Rajkumar on his 40 -year film career
- Kamal called Shivanna a “family” and wished him in Kannada
- Actors like Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna and Kichcha Sudeep also wish Shiv Rajkumar
Kamal Haasan praised Kannada actor Shiv Rajkumar on completion of 40 years in the film industry. In a video celebrating milestone, Kamal talked about his comrades with the Rajkumar family and even explained his wishes in Kannada. His message comes in view of the ban of Karnataka film Chamber of Commerce on his upcoming film, ‘Thug Life’, after his controversial comments about the origin of Kannada language.
In a video message, Kamal Haasan said in Tamil, “You can call him (Shiva Rajkumar) my younger brother or son, you can call me your father (Dr. Rajkumar) younger brother or son. Although you see it, you see it, Shivanna family. I am not saying this for this video, but this is a relationship that is probably 50 years old.”
He further said, “Rajkumar Anna showed me that I did not expect something. The reason for this is that we all grew up within a single studio below him.” Talking about Shiva Rajkumar, he said, “I don’t know how Shivna’s 40 -year career went so soon. He is someone who introduced me as my fan. Today he has developed in a star, a superstar, who is pushing his father’s legacy forward. It’s something that I am very happy about.”
Kamal then briefly switched to Kannada and said, “Shivanna, hope you are keeping well. Keep in mind, be happy and do more movies. Let’s talk again – we both together – we both together – on our 50th anniversary. I will still stay there and our love will still be there.
Pro-Kanada groups protested against Kamal Haasan’s statement that “Kannada was born out of Tamil,” demanding that experienced actors apologize. After refusing to do so, several supporters-Canada groups intensified their opposition, banning the dramatic release of their film ‘Thug Life’ in Karnataka. Shiva Rajkumar, who was present at the time of the statement, was also dragged into controversy. When asked about the case, he questioned critics, asked him what he had done for the betterment of Kannada.
Apart from Kamal Haasan, many other prominent names of South Indian film industries also wish to Shiva Rajkumar on the occasion. Actors like Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Kichcha Sudeep, Nani, Vijay Devarakonda and Dhruva Sarja sent their wishes through video messages. Along with him, ‘Jailor’ director Nelson and ‘Pushpa’ music composer Devi Shri Prasad also congratulated the ‘Jogi’ actor on a milestone.
