Kalki 2898 AD Worldwide Box Office Collection: Prabhas starrer crosses USD 25 million mark overseas, nears 800 crore mark globally

Kalki 2898 AD grossed US$3.70 million (Rs. 31 crores) internationally in its second weekend, taking its total past the US$25 million mark, to US$25.50 million (Rs. 213 crores) so far. With Rs. 576 crore in India, its worldwide gross stands at Rs. 788 crore, surpassing PK to become the tenth highest-grossing Indian film of all time. It will climb a few places in the next few days, and reach close to Rs. 950 crore.

Second weekend numbers are excellent for South Indian films, which are usually very far ahead. In comparison, RRR grossed USD 3.30 million in its second weekend, while KGF 2 grossed USD 3 million. RRR added another USD 3.40 million to its total after the second weekend. If the same pace continues for Kalki, its overseas collection will take it to USD 28.70 million. A better performance cannot be ruled out, possibly going above USD 29 million, although USD 30 million might be a bit difficult to achieve.

Kalki performed best in the United States, where it earned US$1.35 million in its second session, totalling US$13.10 million, more than half of its total gross. The film is now the third-highest-grossing Indian film in the country, or second if only RRR’s original collection is taken into account. The way the film is progressing, Kalki will likely surpass RRR’s total collections as well.

On the other hand, the second weekend was quite good due to the Islamic New Year holiday in the Middle East. The total earnings in this region were US$4 million. Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom rounded out the top five with 2.90 million Canadian dollars, 2.73 million Australian dollars and 1.38 million British pounds respectively.

Comment: Some readers are confused about the North America figures. The numbers reported on comScore are the sum of the United States and Canada grosses without the currency conversion of CAD grosses from Canada to USD. In December of last year, in light of the recent growth of the Canadian market, we decided to begin converting the grosses from Canada and reporting them separately rather than combining the two as “North America.” You can read more about that here.
