Famous British actress Judy Dench (90) has spoken openly about her deteriorating eyesight. She revealed that age-related macular degeneration has left her unable to recognize even her close friends and colleagues.

Veteran British actor Judi Dench has shared that her advanced vision loss now means she can no longer recognize people, including her close friends and colleagues. In a recent interview, the 90-year-old opened up about the impact her deteriorating vision has on her day-to-day activities and conversations.

He was also joined during the interview by close friend and co-star Ian McKellen, who commented that audiences could still see him onscreen. Judy said, “Yes, and I can see your outline in your Macbeth scarf, and I know you very well. But I can’t recognize anyone now.”

Apart from not recognizing people, the 90-year-old woman described how her vision loss has restricted other aspects of her life. “I can’t watch television, I can’t read,” she said.

Earlier this year, Judy revealed on a podcast that her declining vision has made it unsafe for her to leave her house alone. “There’s always going to be someone with me, I have to stay right now because I can’t see and I’ll bump into something or fall over,” she said.

The actor first revealed his diagnosis of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in 2012. The eye condition, which impairs central vision, has steadily reduced his ability to perform tasks such as reading and recognizing faces over the years.

Judy has previously spoken about the changes she has faced in her professional life due to AMD. She has relied on others to help her with her work, especially when it comes to reading scripts.

“It’s usually my daughter or my agent or a friend. Actually I like it, because I sit there and imagine the story in my mind,” she told the Daily Mirror in 2012.

She had further said, “The most disturbing thing is when I am in a restaurant in the evening, I cannot see the person I am having dinner with.”
