Jio True 5G

Reliance Jio has launched a new prepaid plan for users in India, and it is currently the most affordable plan offered by the network provider. It costs Rs 198 and offers the same benefits as the Rs 349 plan. How is that possible? Is there a catch? There is no catch, but at a cheaper price of around Rs 150, the Rs 198 plan offers slightly less validity and data. Having said that, the plan offers unlimited voice calling and complimentary subscription to Jio’s apps.

The new Jio Rs 198 plan is part of Reliance Jio’s original 5G plan. Till now Jio’s Rs 349 plan was the cheapest, but now the Rs 198 plan has replaced it and has become the most affordable. This plan offers 2GB 4G data daily. The validity of this plan is 14 days. This means that during the validity of this plan, the user will get a total of 28GB of data. This plan also includes complimentary subscription of Jio Suite of apps. Note, this does not include subscription of Jio Cinema Premium.

The Rs 198 plan also offers 100 SMS per day and unlimited voice calling.

As is the norm with all Jio plans, once a user exhausts his daily 2GB data, the network speed will drop to 64 kbps unless he/she does a data top-up.

Compared to Jio’s Rs 198 plan, Airtel’s cheapest plan costs Rs 379. This was already more expensive than Jio’s earlier cheapest plan, which was priced at Rs 349. However, with the new Rs 198 plan, the price difference between Jio’s cheapest data plan and Airtel’s data plan has increased significantly.

Just last month, Jio had raised tariffs on its mobile services. Jio is implementing the price hike across several of its mobile service plans. The lowest recharge option will now cost Rs 19, up from Rs 15, which represents a 27 per cent hike for the 1GB data add-on pack. The price of the 75GB postpaid plan will increase from Rs 399 to Rs 449. Also, the popular Rs 666 unlimited plan with 84-day validity will now cost Rs 799, a 20 per cent hike. Annual recharge plans will also increase by 20-21 per cent, and overall, the mid-range plans will see a price hike of 19-21 per cent.
