Alia Bhatt-led Jigra has seen low results in its opening weekend and the collection is estimated to be between Rs 16.50 crore. The film opened with Rs 4.50 crore on Friday, then reached Rs 6.50 crore on Saturday, followed by similar results on Sunday around Rs 5.50 crore. Jigra benefited from Dussehra on Saturday, and a slight decline was always there due to holiday on Sunday.
Jigra grossed around Rs 16.50 crore in the short weekend
Now all eyes are on Monday’s test, as the film will have to survive and eventually show some trend at the box office. Jigra is the first collaboration of Alia Bhatt and Vasan Bala, and is an action thriller, aimed at the urban audience. The top three national chains – PVRinox and Cinepolis – collected Rs 11.80 crore in the three-day period, contributing 67 per cent to the total business. A large portion came from multiplexes, and the film performed little outside the metros due to genre limitations.
The Alia Bhatt factor helped the film’s prospects over the weekend, though very little.
Had Alia Bhatt not been there, the business of Jigra would have been even lower, as the 3 day figures have benefited from her presence, however this is not making any change in the fortunes of the film. Monday’s hold is important, although no miracles are likely to happen in this case, as the 3-day trend is not so encouraging.
Jigra is a financially safe film
What’s actually good for Jigra is that despite not performing that well at the box office, it won’t be losing any money due to strong backend deals from digital and satellite players.
