According to documents accessed by SquareYards.com, Javed Akhtar has bought an apartment in Sagar Samrat Building in Mumbai’s popular Juhu area for Rs 7.76 crore.
The apartment is spread over around 111.43 sq m. The report also states that the deal was completed on July 2 and includes a stamp duty of ₹46.02 lakh and a registration fee of ₹30,000.
Additionally, the lyricist had bought an adjacent apartment spread over 113.20 sq m (1218.47 sq ft) for ₹7 crore in 2021.
When Javed Akhtar shared his experience of spending 3 days hungry on the streets of Mumbai
During a recent interaction with Mojo Story, Javed Akhtar recalled the time when he used to sleep on a cot on the streets of Mumbai at the age of 19 because he had a strained relationship with his father.
Recalling those days, he said, “I remember that and I feel so grateful for life. Instead of feeling sad about it or feeling victimized or persecuted, I feel so grateful for life.”
The donkey lyricist further added that today when he is served breakfast at his luxurious sea-view home in Mumbai, he feels like he is part of a drama and at the same time he feels extremely grateful because there must be crores of people who have suffered like him before but haven’t received any reward.

As a screenwriter, he wrote several iconic films with Salim Khan. They are Sholay (1975), Deewar (1975), and Zanjeer (1973). Later, he wrote screenplays for films like Betaab (1983), Saagar (1985), Main Azaad Hoon (1989), Lakshya (2004) and Don: The Chase Begins (2006).
Akhtar has received several awards, including the Padma Shri (1999), Padma Bhushan (2007) and the Sahitya Akademi Award (2013).
