There are two things about ‘Jatt & Juliet 3’ that draw you towards the film even before you watch it. Firstly, the massive popularity of its protagonist Diljit Dosanjh. And secondly, the film lives up to its legacy despite the last ‘Jatt & Juliet’ film being released a decade ago. Directed by Jagdeep Sidhu, the third installment of this romantic-comedy franchise stays true to its flavour. It is a simple love story where the humour arises from the complications and emotions in a new relationship. But, at its core, the film is a true family entertainer and worth a watch.

Jatt & Juliet 3 features a great on-screen chemistry between Diljit and Neeru Bajwa. Both actors have managed to establish a strong screen presence over the last few years and their confidence is one of the biggest highlights of Jatt & Juliet 3. Diljit reprises his old character Fateh Singh, only this time he is a young new recruit in the Punjab Police who meets his madam Senior Constable Pooja Singh (Neeru) on the first day and decides to play Cupid in their love story. Pooja and Fateh have their own selfish reasons for getting married, but they both pretend to take advantage of their marriage. love-love-love-They succeed in convincing each other that their union is a perfect union of love.

The first half of the film is set in Punjab, where Fateh and Pooja reminisce about the early days of their romance. Their love story takes a turn when they travel to London for work and find out the real reasons behind each other’s marriage. ‘In London’Mr teacher‘, Jasmine Bajwa is very charming as Daisy. Fateh and Daisy’s friendship makes for fun moments in the second half, as does Pooja’s jealousy.

Take a look at the trailer:

‘Jatt & Juliet 3’ is not your typical Punjabi romantic-comedy. The director, who is also the writer of the film, has given Diljit a character that has the generosity of a romantic hero as well as the honesty of a man who has seen a difficult childhood. The scenes with Fateh and his mother give you a taste of the most innocent screen experience. And just before the climax, Diljit’s monologue gives you the best taste of his acting skills. The scene justifies Fateh’s inappropriate behaviour towards his noble lover, and then you stop questioning his decisions and actions.

Neeru is a fine performer. She doesn’t go around seeking attention in scenes. Rather, her performance is that of a confident and graceful performer. She lets Diljit take centre-stage, understanding his reach and potential as a co-star. Watching the two grow as performers together is the best part of ‘Jatt & Juliet 3’. The film stars Diljit as a humble hero who knows where to speak with his eyes, looking straight into the camera, with that piercing gaze. He plays Fateh with a certain ease, with no desperation to achieve anything. It’s an art when an actor can play a loud character with a calm demeanor in his own way. Diljit seems to have mastered it.

The film could have been a little faster and the climax was too cheesy, but it doesn’t disappoint. The director has also ensured that the story has enough to make it relevant in the current times, especially for the audience in Punjab. The film talks about gender equality, poverty, dowry, politics and the phenomenon of brain drain. You are told very intelligently what your contribution is in making the rich richer and the poor poorer. Supporting roles of Nasir Chinyoti, Akram Udas, Rana Ranbir and BN Sharma add to the humour and you never get a single boring moment in the film. The music of the film is like fireworks. Most of the songs are by Diljit and he takes you on a whirlpool of excitement with every beat.

Even with the slow pace, ‘Jatt & Juliet 3’ looks like a wholesome Punjabi film that you would love to watch.
