Jatadhara Box Office Day 1: Sonakshi Sinha, Sudhir Babu’s film opens with Rs 20 lakh
Sonakshi Sinha and Sudheer Babu’s supernatural thriller ‘Jatadhara’ received positive reviews but had a weak opening at the box office, earning around Rs 20 lakh on its first day.

The much-awaited supernatural thriller ‘Jatadhara’ starring Sonakshi Sinha and Sudhir Babu released in theaters this week, blending Indian mythology with elements of modern horror. Despite its visual ambition and positive critical response, the film had a slow start at the box office. According to initial estimates of Sacnilk‘Jatadhara’ earned around Rs 20 lakh on the opening day.
Set against the divine backdrop of the Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple, the story explores the tension between science, faith and mysticism. Although critics have praised its bold storytelling and mythological references, the conceptual depth has not translated into a strong audience. The film’s opening was well below expectations, especially when compared to recent releases in the same genre like ‘Thamma’, which had earned Rs 18.8 crore.
Despite a slow start, trade analysts expect the film to gain popularity over the weekend, with the positive response potentially improving its box office performance.
Written and directed by Venkat Kalya and Abhishek Jaiswa, Jatadhara follows Shiva’s journey (Sudheer Babu), a suspicious ghost hunter who keeps having recurring dreams of a child being killed by a woman. The discovery of a mysterious photograph in their home reveals a deep connection with Dhan Pishachini (Sonakshi Sinha) – a mythological demon who is said to guard hidden wealth. As Shiva delves deeper, he discovers shocking truths about his past, leading to an intense clash between fate, faith and the supernatural.
The film also stars Shilpa Shirodkar and Divya Khosla in lead roles. It is Sonakshi Sinha’s first Telugu film and is shot simultaneously in both Telugu and Hindi, aiming to combine folklore and contemporary cinema. Produced under the SKG Entertainment banner and presented by Zee Studios, ‘Jatadhara’ is known for its ambitious scope and visual storytelling.
