Vijay’s Jana Nayakan releases in theaters today (July 23), marking the Tamil superstar’s much-awaited swansong on the big screen. The film comes just months after Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu following Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam’s victory in the state assembly elections.
Directed by H Vinoth, the action thriller released in theaters after a lengthy certification battle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), making it one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Due to massive advance bookings and rising expectations, the film is expected to register a record-breaking opening at the box office.
Despite multiple delays and an online leak earlier this year – which reportedly garnered over 1.20 crore views according to industry trackers – there is buzz around Jan Naygan Has been unaffected. The film has been released on approximately 2,500 screens in India, with morning shows starting at 6 am in many regions, while Tamil Nadu followed its standard practice of starting screenings at 9 am.
