Recently, Jamie Foxx remembered his sister DeAndra Dixon by posting on Instagram to mark the anniversary of her death.
On Saturday, October 19, they shared a heartfelt post on Instagram reflecting on their love-filled time. He recalled how she and her entire family celebrated her life every day and how she was a source of joy and light to all.
Fox expressed how deeply he misses her and how much love he has for her. He wrote, “Not a day goes by when we don’t think about you. We know you are in heaven shining on us and guiding us with a sense of joy and happiness. Miss you sister, I love you.” ,
In 2020, DeOndra, who had Down syndrome, died. At the time, Fox announced her death, saying that she had been a shining light in his life, and emphasized that she would always be a part of his family in spirit. He wrote, “My beautiful, sweet sister Deondra has changed. I say change because she will live forever… Anyone who knew my sister knew she was a bright light.
Since seventh grade, Deondra has participated in the Special Olympics. Over time, she became an ambassador for the Global Down Syndrome Foundation. In 2002, after earning her high school diploma, she moved from Texas to California to live with Fox and her other sister, Deidra.
According to People, dancing was her lifelong passion. She once said that she wanted to be a dancer and took every opportunity to fulfill her dream. She appeared in Fox’s 2009 music video Blame It and performed at her concerts. She even accompanied him to the Grammy Awards in 2020.
Fox was always supportive of his sister and continues to honor her memory by advocating for the Down syndrome community. In November 2020, following her death, she and her family established the DeOndra Dixon Research Fund, which aims to address the unmet needs of people with Down syndrome, a community that is often overlooked.
Reflecting on her influence, Fox shared that DeAndra helped her understand what really matters in life. He taught him not to be worried about money or material things, but to live life joyfully with love and lightness.
