James Gun regrets confusion around Henry Cavil’s Superman Return, calls it unfair

Director James Gun recently addressed the confusion about actor Henry Cavil’s return to ‘Superman’. Gunn admitted that his role in the actor’s report was repeated as the superheroes were really unfair to Cavil.
‘Superman’ director in Happy sad confusion Podcast said the unexpected declaration of Cavill returning as ‘Superman’ was “really unfortunate”.
He said, “We were trying to find out if we can take a job in DC Studio, and we are talking to David Jaslav and all the legal people there, and finding out what our deals will be.”
Gunn further said, “And the day our deal was closed, suddenly he was announced that Henry was back. I am liking, what is going on? Like, we know what is the plan, the plan has to come and do Superman. It was really unfortunate, I am liked, I am a poor man.”
The director also praised the commercialism of the 42 -year -old, called it “a full gentleman”.
“And so Peter (Safran) and I knew that I had to do the right thing, had to sit with Cavil and talk to him. And we sat down, we talked to him, he was a full gentleman, he was a great man about it,” he left.
“The only thing I ask is that I am able to reveal it myself because contrary to you guys.” It was really unfair to him and the total boomer, “the director said.
Gunn also highlighted external influences that “in DC what they wanted to do and were trying to force their own way and it was not just part of the equation.”
The director, who cast actor David Karenswetw in Titular Roll in ‘Superman’ (2025), rejected Cavil’s idea of casting in another character. He said, “No, as another character? Of course, I talked to him about it that day. I would like to keep Henry in something.”
Gunn’s ‘Superman’ also includes Rachel Brosnhan, Nicholas Halt, Bradley Cooper, Sara Sampio, Skyler Gisondo, Frank Grillo, Nathan Philian and Milli Alcock.
The film was released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
